Thermoplastic Road Marking

Manycon Expert in Thermoplastic Road marking in Qatar

Road markings are crucial in keeping highways, drivers and passengers safe. Composed of synthetic resin and premix glass beads, thermoplastic road markings have been a popular and superior choice for road safety. Manycon has the experience and expertise to provide unparalleled services in hot thermoplastic road marking for various projects across the country. Ours is a team of highly skilled professionals who can handle projects of all sizes and complexities with the fastest turnaround time.

With its excellent reflection properties, thermoplastic markings provide ultra-high visibility even at night or in bad weather conditions, catching drivers’ attention almost instantly. At Manycon Construction Company, we use white and yellow thermoplastic paint and glass beads for the road marking.

What is thermoplastic?

Designed with wide range of performance and composition specifications to meet all global climatic conditions. Thermoplastic road marking materials covers full range of screed, extrusion and spray applications including the latest generation of heavy metal free and high performance road markings with excellent durability.

Purpose of Thermoplastic:

It has better retro reflective performance than that of ordinary road marking paint

Benefits of Thermoplastic:

  • Safety One of the major benefits of thermoplastic road markings is improved road safety.
  • Durability Thermoplastic road markings are more durable than paint and other materials.
  • Multiple Applications
  • Easy Application
  • Accuracy
    Cost-Effective

Intended Uses:

  • Suitable for use on concrete (primed surface), bituminous and runway surfaces.
  • Road marking application areas: markings at junction and crossings, stop lines and direction arrows, pedestrian crossings, center and edge markings on freeways and highways, etc.
  • Thermoplastic road marking material is recommended for situations requiring good durability and night reflectance.

Application Specification:

Surface Temperature

: Surface temperature should be ≥ 15⁰C

Method

: Screed, Extrusion or Spray Application

Substrate

: Asphalt or concrete surface (primed)

Application Temperature

: Spray 210 – 220⁰C and Screed/ Extrusion 170 – 200⁰C

Maximum Safe Heating Temperature

: 230⁰C

Coverages of Thermoplastic Application:

Form of Paint: Liquid. Application Method: Roller, Brush. Drying time: Not more than 15 min. Coverage: 5 Kg per sqm.

How long do thermoplastic markings last?

Thermoplastic markings are much more durable than water-based and solvent-based painted markings. Whereas thermoplastic markings can be expected to last many years without becoming faded or damaged, painted markings may only last up to a year before needing to be replaced.

Thermoplastic Life durability;

Thermoplastics typically have a service life of 3-5 years, depending on conditions.

Drying time of Thermoplastic paint;

The thermoplastic road marking paint should dry in a short time (within 5 minutes), no matter what climate it is.

Three types of thermoplastic;

Some of the most common types of thermoplastics are polypropylene, polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polyethylene terephthalate and polycarbonate.

Thickness of Thermoplastic road marking paint;

Thermoplastic road markings vary in thickness between 1.5 mm and 3 mm.

Density of the thermoplastic road marking paint;

Thermoplastic Road Paint Marking Material Density 1.8-2.1g/cm3.

Temperature of Thermoplastic road marking;

Keep temperature in range of 400-440 ºF (204-227 ºC). Adhesion failure at pavement Contaminants or moisture at pavement surface, application temperature too low, application speed too high, pavement temperature too low Check for contaminants and moisture.

Advantages of Thermoplastic;

  • Durable. Thermoplastics are ductile and impact resistant
  • Chemical and Stain Resistant
  • Integral Colours and Effects
  • Meet Codes and Requirements
  • Environmentally Friendly.

Disadvantages of Thermoplastic;

  • Low UV stability on colours.
  • Colour matching difficult with pigments being manually added.
  • Poor adhesion values on concrete.
  • Low softening point – durability reduced in hot weather.
  • Pick up dirt easily in mucky environments.

Thermoplastic Road marking Application Marking procedure:

Surface Preparation:

Before applying thermoplastic markings proper surface preparation is essential. The road surface must be thoroughly clean to remove dirt, debris, & any existing markings.

Pre marking

After surface preparation we must pre-mark the road marking as we required in the sites. This is necessary step to follow when will apply road markings.

Application:

Once the thermoplastic material is melted, it’s applied to the road surface using various method, such as extrusion, spray or screed. While spray guns are used for creating more intricate markings like symbols & arrows.

Adding Glass Beads:

To enhance visibility at night, glass beads are often embedded into the freshly applied thermoplastic markings. These beads reflect light from vehicle headlights, increasing the markings visibility in low light conditions.

Cooling and Drying:

After the thermoplastic material is applied and glass are added, it needs time to cool and solidify. Once cooled, the marking are ready for traffic.
